October AnnouncementsREMINDER: Students must sign up by Wednesday of each week to receive a Certificate of Attendance to obtain a driver's license. Certificates will be given on Thursdays.
There will be an Anchor Club meeting at Briarwood Community Center November 2 at 7:00 p.m. Officers need to meet at 6:30.
Any senior interested in going to New York City needs to meet in Dr. Jackson's room Monday, November 2, at break.
Congratulations to the MHS cheerleaders for their performance at the Regional Competition on Saturday, October 31, in Booneville. They will advance to the State Competition in Jackson on December 19th.
Congratulations to Travis Dulaney and Will Knight. They recently participated in the U.S. Senate Leadership Competition and did well enough to advance to the interview phase of the program, which will be in Jackson, MS. Only 15 students statewide advanced to this phase. The winners in Jackson will spend a week in Washington, D.C., with all expenses paid and will receive college scholarship.
The MHS Family is deeply saddened by the news that one of our students, Kevin Hugh York, Jr., lost his battle with cancer Friday, October 30. We observed a moment of silence in his memory during Homeroom. Please keep Kevin's family and friends in your prayers. The visitation was at McNeese-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral was at 2:00 Sunday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home. The DIVISION FOOTBALL GAME at Baldwyn was moved to THURSDAY, Oct. 29, instead of Friday, Oct. 30.
NO JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL GAMES Thursday, Oct. 29, at Mooreville, since Mooreville moved their football game from Friday night to Thursday night.
The cheerleaders will compete in the North District Cheer Competition in Booneville on Saturday, October 31. They will perform at 1:57. Please go and help support our MHS Cheerleaders! The Junior Class is sponsoring a Halloween Dance in the Corral for grades 7-9 on October 31 from 7-10 p.m. $5 admission includes Haunted Room and Fortune Teller. There will be prizes for "Best Costume" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Concessions include pizza, chips, cupcakes, and drinks. There will also be Face Painting for $2, Colored Hair Spray for $3, and Halloween Pictures for $3. The Junior Class has some extra Halloween shirts for sale. They are $12 for short sleeves and $15 for long sleeves. See any junior or junior sponsor to purchase one. Click here to see the design. There will be a Career Club meeting Friday, October 30, at lunch in the Career Center. Pep Rally in the gym on Thursday, October 29, at 2:30. Oct. 26-30 is Red Ribbon Week. SADD Club is collecting canned food items to donate to the local food pantry since this year's theme is "Being Drug Free Comes in Cans." Monday, wear RED to kick off the week. Tuesday's theme is "Born to be Drug Free." There will be a Cutest Baby Picture Contest. Bring quarters to vote for which of our faculty and staff members has the cutest baby picture. Thursday's theme is "Join the Fight Against Drugs." Wear Camo to show your support on Thursday. Congratulations to the Cross Country 2A Division Runners: Boys: Jared Peterson--2nd, Josh Wood--13th, Michael Jay Horton--15th, Max Campbell--16th Girls: Kristin Hopper--13th The Cross Country & Track Teams are selling Mustang t-shirts. See your homeroom teacher or Mrs. Cooper for an order form. Orders are due Monday, October 26. Solid shirts are $10 (pink, lime green, brown, orange, white, or blue), and tie-dyed shirts are $15. Please go by the Library and donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The 9th grade Tech Discovery classes made promotional displays for this purpose. The class with the most donations will win. Please help support a foundation that has done so much for some of our own. The displays will be in the Library through Friday, October 23. Juniors: Prom Meeting Thursday, Oct. 22, at Kim's Diner--6:00 PM. "Books are Fun" will be in the Library through Tuesday, October 20. Juniors: Prom Meeting Monday, Oct. 19, in the Library--6:00 PM-7:00 PM. Congratulations to Coach Hamilton's and Mrs. Miller's junior high homerooms for having the highest parent participation at Open House/Report Card Pick-Up (94% each). Congratulations to Mrs. Clouse's, Mrs. Thompson's, and Mrs. Sheffield's high school homerooms for having the highest parent participation at Open House/Report Card Pick-Up (100% each). Each of these homerooms will receive a pizza party! We had 88% participation overall in grades 7-12. THANKS for the GREAT turnout! Open House/Report Card Pick-Up for grades 7-12 will be Monday, October 19, from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. Only a parent or guardian may pick up Report Cards.
Please return all library books used for 1st 9 Weeks English Projects. They may be returned to the Library, to Mrs. Brasel, or to Coach Hamblin.
Super Youth Day "Get Fit" worship, Ozark Dream Team. This event will be at Union Grove Worship Center, 464 CR 1650, Mooreville, MS. This event will be outside if the weather is nice. You may bring blankets and chairs. It will be Saturday, October 17, from 1-7:00 p.m.
Science Club dues are $12 and need to be paid to Mrs. Taylor by October 16.
The PSAT will be Wednesday, October 14. There are three slots still available for interested juniors. The cost is $13. See Mr. Credille to register.

Junior Civitan Club Dues need to be paid by October 9. The fee is $15.
The yearbook staff will be selling 2009-2010 Yearbooks October 5-9. They will come to homerooms to collect money and orders during that week. Yearbooks are $35. You may also go to the "Yearbook" link on the Home page and order online.
4-H Day @ MSU Football will be October 3 when MSU plays Georgia Tech.
